This chapter gives a brief overview of the different types of tests and their purposes of use. It also briefly describes some of the preparation work and gives a good example placement test showing multiple question types from direct multiple choice to essay prompts. Finally various external tests and their differences are discussed. I felt that the material was a little too brief in this chapter and some of the general information could have been covered in more detail.
