It's important to know what to do in our first lesson with a new group (the student's don't know each other) or existing group (the students are already likely to know and be comfortable with each other).
The experienced teacher can use different activities to achieve: Establish rapport between the students and the teacher, find out about the students and their needs, aspirations with english and find out the English level of each student. Some activities the teacher can use are: survey, tell us about..., pass the ball game, needs analysis.
We also need to be aware and use some warmers ideas like: hangman, pictionary, tongue twisters, memory games, etc.
As teachers we need to know how to work with different english levels in the class, we can use different materials or the same material and different tasks.
In case of large classes, we can use: Worksheets, pair/group work, choral repetition, appoint group leaders, dynamics, etc.
We need to make sure our students are talking all the time in English avoiding the use of their native language.
We also need to help students practice their listening skill, with different activities and make sure we have balanced classes for the different skills, grammar, etc, in order to achieve a proper understanding of the English language.
