Unit 10 consists in two lessons on video taught by the same teacher but with opposite methods and results. In the first lesson the teacher, looking quite serious, enters the class saying only " Hello”. He neither introduced himself nor asked the students their names. The teacher started the lesson immediately asking questions about different topics and it seemd he was confusing the students. There wasn't an Engage phase either and he didn't explained anything, so the students couldn't understand and were guessing to find the right answer. During the lesson, the teacher's attitude was quite negative, drinking water directly from the bottle in front of the class and using his mobile phone. He had no enthusiasm and often discouraged the students. He pointed to the students instead of calling them by name and even showed frustration and treated badly a few students who arrived late. The drilling was done quickly and he didn't even check the students pronunciation- When they answered wrong, he discouraged them saying, “ No " or " It's quite easy " and then answered the questions himself. During the study and activate phases, the students were left alone. He did not observe them. On the contrary, he told them to finish quickly! He was demotivating and discouraging to his students. He ended the lesson with a quick, impersonal " Bye " leaving the students speechless and with a negative experience. In the second lesson the teacher entered with a nice smile saying " Hello " , he introduced himself and asked each student their name and answering " Nice to meet you .... ". He also used name cards to help. The lesson began with the Engage phase where he involved each student by asking questions and checking understanding. The teacher used images, materials and mimes to elicit the answers. He always had a positive attitude, encouraged the students and complemented their progress. During the lesson, he participated and interacted actively with all the students who were obviously enjoying the lesson and having fun. The lesson ended with the teacher saying " Thank you very much, see you next time bye bye " . The students looked very happy and satisfied about the lesson they had. My opinion is that to have a good lesson it's important to be positive, have a plan, explain and elicit with positive encouragement and maintain a nice smile.
