The brief concepts covered in this unit of work on Teaching Special Groups, has provided an overview of some of the different types of students/classes that I will be exposed to, in addition to those in a language learning centre. I appreciated the focus on trying to use English as the only language spoken, as I do speak other languages and for a time thought that this would be helpful, but I can now see that when teaching English that the focus needs to remain on using the English language and not giving the students the opportunity to be lazy and not listen to what is being said, because they know I will assist them in their native tongue. It was mentioned at the beginning of the unit that the term "beginner" can make teachers hesitate, however this is one area that I really love as it is a clean slate and I do not feel overwhelmed by this but I am happy to embrace it. I appreciate how it feels to be a new language learner and the joy that is felt during the learning process and I look forward to continuing to see this in my students.
