Eldersburg, Maryland TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
The first chapter gave a clear distinction between the teachers and students.
The teachers must be flexible in their roles to be able to cater the needs of their students. They could performed variety of roles such as a manager, facilitator, assessor, tutor, organizer , prompter etc. in their own class to bring their students to the expected learning outcome, which in this case would be "bridging the students to learn new language and or to be a better user of English as a second language". Teachers, moreover could reflect a noble behavior such as being purely concern with the learning of their students, getting involve with students' progress and be willing to do extra miles for the learners' benefit.
This unit also provides a glimpse on the differences between the young and adult learners. The former group are categorized according to their ages; such as children from 2 to 7 years which exhibits behavior like having a short span of attention and their inclination to play. While children ages 8-13 are becoming more receptive to learning and shows no care for making errors. At young adolescent stage which is 14-18, they rather displays self-consciousness that somehow resulted on avoiding mistakes or risks in front of peers. These young learners moreover, are prone to learn new and/ or to improve in the second language not solely based on their own decision, but due to external factors. Whereas, adult learners are more disciplined, more experienced and are likely driven to become a better user of the second language by their own free will.
In lieu of this, a future service provider in the area of TEFL must be knowledgeable not only on the age and behaviour of students, but most importantly to the level of their English language usage. Knowing where the level of the students at would be a better help to bring them to the next level they desired.
