I learned about the different conditionals and when they are to be used. As a native English speaker who does not think about such things normally, I found this to be very useful. I can only imagine how much English students could struggle with distinguishing between different conditionals, particularly between third and mixed... But having the usage of each conditional explained was very helpful and helped me imagine how I could effectively teach such a tricky subject. This lesson also covered reported speech and how to convert from direct to reported speech depending on the verb tense used. That said, I do believe there is some ambiguity in some examples and it's not always so clear cut, which makes this lesson a bit confusing at times. For example, during this test, I do believe there could be two answers to the question, "Catherine said, i have never eaten octopus." If she has still not eaten octopus or if she had not eaten octopus at the time, but has now eaten it, then you could answer it two different ways I think. Regardless, this lesson taught me very much and I feel like I've learned lots of strategies for teaching these skills. The last exercise on the task sheet was particularly useful because it forced me to create a lesson plan and think of creative activities for teaching about reported speech.
