It is very important to evaluate the levels and progress students have and are making in order to serve them better in the classroom to be prepared for whatever future they are hoping for with the English language. There are different ways to assess progress from Assessment (a general understanding of where the students are at in their fluency), Diagnostic (a first test in class to see where modifications need to be made to fill the gaps in student's understanding, Progress tests (taken throughout the course to make sure the students are keeping up and on target) and practice tests (to be prepared for external tests).
