The unit briefly covers the classroom setting and expectations, correctly emphasizing the success and experience of the student as the main priority. It discusses attributes that both benefit the teachers and the students as well as different approaches to learning and lesson structure. Additionally, the material discusses outside factors, such as age, how different people and cultures perceive information, various life experience, motivation or lack thereof, and others that contribute to the atmosphere of a classroom and the importance of the teacher to be able to work with all these factors in a positive light. Categorization of language skills, though varying in terminology from one country to another, is discussed for more accurate assessment of student capabilities. I have experience teaching and acting as a mediator for both children and adults in the U.S. and in the Middle East. As such, much of this information is not new, but it does make me reflect on my previous experience when the concepts discussed here have presented themselves in ways I may not have predicted. While we all make errors on occasion, it is good to be reminded of the importance of patience. Possessing the patience to allow a student or individual to come to their own conclusions while providing the right amount of guidance is always worth the wait for both the teacher and student.
