Unit 19 explains about different groups and classes and gives outlines on how to approach the students with a different background in English. When teaching beginners, unit suggests that teachers should keep the lessons simple, use gestures & mimes and be supportive & praise as often as possible. Praising students in beginner classes will help build confidence and encourage the students to participate in every part of the lesson. The unit points out in the beginning that there are different types of beginners such as absolute beginners who have no exposure to English at all, false beginners who have studied English but have limited knowledge, adult beginners who have decided to learn English and motivated, young beginners who lack motivation and beginners who has no knowledge about Roman alphabet and need to be taught from basic skills. While teaching individual lessons, teachers should do a simple analysis to elicit what the student weakness and strengths, conduct lessons and activities based on the student's interests. It is also important to cover all 4 skills equally in individual lessons. In teaching young learners, teachers should constantly praise and encourage them to learn, keep the lessons slow and fun and use simple words to avoid misunderstanding, tend to individual needs if needed, prepare various activities to keep their attention. Business English has a misconception of being different from general English and "Business" word strikes fears to teachers' heart. The unit explains the student's motivation, age, background knowledge of the language and energy is different in Business English classes. Lastly, the unit discusses the advantages and disadvantages of monolingual and multilingual classes.
