The use of course book when, used correctly can be a great advantage. It can help the teacher in preparing an effective syllabus and it can help the student learn better. That being said a teacher should not depend completely on a course book because it can become borring and the students could loose interest so it is a good idea to also use created material that way lesson can be adapted to the students needs and interest.
