I learned in this unit that there are many methodologies that a teacher can employ in teaching english to students. Perhaps the most common is direct comparison and translation from the students' native language which is known as grammar-translation. For beginner students the audio-lingualism method of repeating verbal drills might be tried to dial in some basics. The lexical approach argues that students are better off studying words and phrases rather than grammar. I think to find the best methodology a teacher needs to be flexible and observant. Observe how the student is responding and be ready to try something new if a student isn't responding to a specific teaching style. This also means that a good teacher should also pay attention to how their students are engaging with certain lesson plans as well as how corrections are made.
