This unit has provided the most new information for me thus far in this course. I was not previously familiar with the manners of articulation or the names for the organs involved in producing speech. I think demonstration drills and repetition are effective ways to teach pronunciation. I can understand how the phonemic alphabet is useful for fostering universal understanding of English pronunciation but I think it may be difficult or even confusing for novice learners of English. The disconnect between often how a word is spelled and how it is pronounced is difficult but can be overcome with constant regular exposure to the language.
