Uni t 19 is all about Teaching special groups. This group varies from Beginner,Individuals,Young learners,Business English and Monolingual vs. Multilingual.I have learnt that many teachers consider teaching beginners as a rewarding and enjoyable aspects of teaching EFL though it is opposite to what inexperienced teachers think.Beginner students are divided into five classifications based on their English level, these are the Absolute beginners with zero English level,False beginner, having some exposure to the language,Adult beginner who often make their own decision to study the language and are highly motivated, the Young beginner who are often lacking of motivation because they don't intend to study the language themselves and the Beginner without the Roman Alphabet who need a lot of initial work on basic literacy skills. There are thing we could consider when teaching Beginner students like, keeping everything simple,be visual than verbal, get them talk more, use questioning and verbal repetition drills, use pair work,be supportive and praise as often as possible, responds to individual needs,be patient, prepare lots of Interactive games and don't over correct. As for teaching Individuals or what we call one to one class,as a teacher we should always needs analysis, concentrate on their interest, cover all skills of the language and vary the activities and approach.Young learners(YLs) are usually self motivated and Enthusiastic on learning so we a teacher should constantly praise them,do constant repetition, give a slow and simple speech, have a individual reference, prepare lots of activities and always keep the lesson fun. There are do's and don'ts a teacher of EFL need to consider when teaching Young learners like keep in mind to always use English, speak slowly, use gesture and mime, play games often as possible and always remember to don't use their L1,put individuals "on the spot",expect students to have all the materials and never be afraid to make fun of yourself as a teacher. When it comes to disciplining the young learners always remember as a teacher to make yourself aware of their problems, change the dynamic,be fair and constant, change activities as often as possible but don't be inconsistent, break rules yourself, use physical punishment and never get angry. As to my own thought before, teaching Business English requires a teacher a knowledge about what kind of Business Industry the students are involve to but this unit have explained that teaching Business English is 90% of Business English Language is general English and teacher are not teaching students about Business. In Business English,it can be an Individual learner,to teach in a company or Company department to your school. There are factors to consider when teaching Business English like student tiredness from working all day, mixed ability in a class, attendance can be erratic and students motivation may vary. There is a Typical process that a teacher can follow for teaching Business English,The Level test,Need analysis,Group needs negotiation,Plan out the syllabus, test evaluation and the post course evaluation. This is use to help teacher be guided on how to teach well before, during and right after teaching EFL to Business English learners.Same as the YLs,there are also Do's and Don'ts in Business English like do make sure to use your ignorance of their job to your advantage, find out what their jobs involve,be professional and always keep records but don't talk about people inside a company to others, don't expect them to bring all materials needed and never use their Native Language.Lastly for Monolingual which means students all have the same Native language and the Multilingual which means students have different L1s.The Advantages in teaching Monolinguals are they have common difficulties, culture similarities, can help each other on their L1 but disadvantages also exists like they will try even at higher levels to use their L1 and they are less natural expose to English. As for the Multilingual, advantages are they have no common language except English, they have variety of experiences and more they have more exposure to L2 and disadvantages for Multilingual are they don't have common difficulties and have different Ethnic backgrounds.
