Past tense is broadly classified in 4 types. Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect and Past Perfect Continuous which are further classified in different forms such as Affirmative, Negative and Question. In Past Simple always ED is added to the verb (Action), in negative form it is DID NOT / DIDN'T before the base. In question always it starts with DID. Affirmative Past Continuous is added with WAS / WERE and the verb ends with ING. In negative it is WAS NOT/ WERE NOT and ending the verb with ING. In question it is What WERE OR Where WAS. In Past Perfect affirmative it is HAD and in negative HAD NOT. In Past Perfect Continuous HAD BEEN in positive and in negative HAD BEEN NOT and always the verb is always ending with ING.
