Conditional clauses, covered in this unit, seem to be one of the most difficult areas of English to teach (and learn). Conditionals encompass almost all the verb tenses and although there are rules to offer guidance, proper application and usage depends on the context of the clauses. Zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditionals reflect things that will, might (or might not) and even imaginary events.
Unit 16 also covers reporting of direct statements. Reporting, sometimes referred to as indirect speech, involves not just changing verb tenses, but the change of pronouns.
