Like the present tense unit, I felt that this one had a singular purpose, that being to reinforce what knowledge I already, and/or dust of the decades old teachings of language rules most of us don't revisit unless needed. Reflecting on this unit does go to show that how often and in what circumstances certain tenses are used, and makes it clear how such distinctions can be difficult for a student to learn.
