In this unit I learned about student testing and evaluation. Some of the evaluation such as homework, course unit testing, external test and half and end of term tests. Here I learned a few of the most used common types of test.1.Diagnostic 2.Practice 3. Placement 4.Progress 5. Proficiency. Placement test are used to find out at what level of English the student is at, so they are put into the right class. The Diagnostic test tells the teacher information about each students strengths and weaknesses and about their aptitude, and the diagnostic test lets the teacher plan the lesson for what the student doesn't yet no, so precious time isn't wasted on teaching the student things that they already know. The progress test is useful for the tutor as it can be used to find out where the class is lacking on a particular subject. The practice test is basically used for revision purposes. Then I learned about the proficiency tests, there are 3 categorize, business English, general English and Academic English. I learned that the Cambridge tests have 5 levels, the first two levels are starter levels. Then the 3rd level is Upper intermediate level, and the 4th and 5th is for higher learning and is considered extremely difficult. The business exams is also known as TOEIC, test of English for International Communication. There's also the Cambridge BEC and BULATS. Academic English has two similar sub catergories, IELTS and TOEFL, both of these can be used to graduate into universities.
