In this unit Coditionals and reported speech, here are are few things that I learned. Conditionals are sentences that contain an 'if' or a similar word something like (when) and theses refer to the past. Conditionals contain two clauses the if clause and the main clause, and either of these can be in the first part of a conditional sentence. There are just five conditionals. Here are some examples of using conditionals that I learned in this unit. Zero Conditional: We can make a zero conditional sentence with two present simple verbs (one in the 'if clause' and one in the 'main clause' Here is an example: If people eat too much, they get fat. First conditional: If I have enough money, I will go to Japan. 2. Second conditional: If I had enough money, I would go to Japan. 3. Third conditional: If I had had enough money, I would have gone to Japan: I also learned about the use of reported speech and direct speech. We use reported speech when we want to repeat what someone had previously said. For e.g Direct Tomie said = 'I am tired.' Reported Speech = 'Tomie said (that) she was tired.' In reported speech we need to use the past tense form of the verb. In direct speech the present tense is used. As you can see, in the above sentence 'am' changes to 'was' when we use reported speech. I also learned about Time Expressions, for example 'today' turns to 'that day', 'yeasterday' becomes the day before.
