This unit looks at lesson planning. I begins with a broad breakdown of the reasons for planning lessons-how it will help the teacher as a record and as a teaching aid. It then looks at the basic structure of a plan and what information should be included and why. I found this section particularly useful because it pointed out information I hadn't considered - for instance anticipated problems as well as the section about timing. When planning lessons I often forget to think about what problems a student might have with a grammar point and this is a vital thing to consider, I realise. The lesson then gives an example of a lesson plan for an ESA structured lesson. I learnt alot here, particularly about writing down a detailed anatomy of the procedure I plan to use. I realised it's a very good way to prepare for a lesson to break down each phase into specific exercises. The unit then gives some ideas for teaching the present perfect, with an interesting exercise for engaging the class and then more detailed exercises for the study phase. The suggested excercise for the engage phase is very useful and interesting because I've found it quite difficult to find an exercise to introduce such a tricky grammar area. This execise really helps.
