Unit Nine dove into the details of lesson planning. Everything is presented in an organized manner with explanations of why as well as how. This is important to me as a trainee because now I catch a glimpse of the daily "doing" in order to be an effective teacher. I learned that lesson plans are an aid for accomplishing specific goals, just as I may note down a calendar of events or a grocery list. Jeremy Harmer tells us in "How to Teach English" on page 121 that planning helps teachers think about what needs to be accomplished in the classroom and note the method of accomplishment. These notes can be as detailed as the situation demands, or as brief as the teacher's experience allows. This unit provides sample lesson plan forms and tasks which enabled me as a trainee to get some basic practice in lesson planning. There is also a form for self-evaluation which is an excellent guideline to help me improve my teaching skills as I gain experience. Grammar was incorporated into the task sheet ESA Straight Arrow lesson planning exercise by contrasting the present perfect simple with the past simple in describing experiences which happened in the past at an indefinite time. The second grammar point presented the use of might and may for discussing future possible event for the patchwork style lesson plan.
