These unit focuses on the four different types of past tense, past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. Past simple: Affirmative- (add -ed or –d to the base form of the verb) Negative- (add did not or didn't before the base form) Question- (add did plus subject before base form) E.g: I ate cornflakes for breakfast Past continuous: Affirmative- (subject + was/were + verb+ing) Negative- (subject + was/were + not + verb+ing) Question- (was/were + subject + verb+ing) E.g: I was eating my breakfast when the phone rang. Past perfect: Affirmative- ( subject + had + past participle) Negative-( subject + had + not + past participle) Question- ( had + subject + past participle) E.g: I had already eaten breakfast when I got to work. Past perfect continuous: Affirmative- (subject + had + been + verb+ing) Negative- (subject + had + not + been + verb+ing) Question- (had + subject + been + verb+ing) E.g: I had only been eating my breakfast for 2 minutes when his boss phoned.
