Overall, course books are a blessing in disguise. They provide a great outline for a lot of students and provide comfort. However, that comfort scenario is never a great zone to allow a student to sit in. Having something they feel all too familiar with as a syllabus can create boredom and it can have an adverse effect if the teacher isn't overly prepared for a lesson. In general, they're fine. But, I always feel conversational skills are the main things people want.
