THIs unit covers a number of grammar points. It begins with modal verbs and points out their basic rules and the different situations when they are used (expressing probability, obligation, permission, ability and advice). It then provides a table that pretty much sums up each modal verb, its use and present and past form. The teaching ideas suggested with this section were quite useful. the unit then moves onto the passive voice and explains the difference between the active and passive. It provides a break down of its form for each tense and then looks at usage, typical errors and some teaching suggestions. Next it talks about relative clauses and explains the difference between defining clauses (when the dependent clause defines the noun it is attached to) and non-defining clauses (when the dependent clause just gives extra information). Finally it finishes with a very brief introduction into phrasal verbs and the wonderful magic of transitive separable and transitive inseparable verbs. For the first group, object pronouns can only be placed between the noun and the particle. In the second case the object pronoun has to come after the particle.
