In unit 13 we learned about course books and other materials. There are advantages to using a course book, such as a tried and true syllabus, it is graded to a language level, provides a balance set of skills (vocabulary, grammar and usage skills), and provides a lot of material so newer teachers don't have to make everything from scratch. The disadvantages are that it doesn't always meet specific needs, it can create laziness and boorishness, and it may lead away from being student-needs-centered, and assume that it has the end-all, comprehensive learning the students need.
