This unit touches upon how to plan lessons in order to teach vocabulary, language/grammar points and language functions.
The first section talks about teaching vocabulary. In this section, I have learned about the factors that influence how easy or hard a vocabulary item can be for a student, how to select which words to teach, what the students need to know about a vocabulary item, and finally some techniques to teach vocabulary in each stage of the ESA.
The second section touches upon teaching grammar structures. In this section, I have learned about what the students need to know about a particular grammar structure (meaning, usage, forms & patterns, spoken and written forms if applicable), and various techniques to present and practice language structures in our ESA model.
Finally, the third section talks about how to teach language functions (basically, scenarios in which language is used). In this section, I have learned boomerang and patchwork type of ESA lessons are the most effective when it comes to teaching language, and how role-play is a recommended activity for this teaching language functions.
