This was a simple lesson in the breakdown of the different types of classes you might have as an ESL teacher (though i'm guessing they can also be combined when appropriate). Vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. All necessary to help students understand how English works. I think the most surprising section was just the concept of language functions. It's another thing where I obviously realize this is a thing but since I speak English I don't actively think about how my usage is acting functionality-wise. Which is cool to think about.
