While there would be some need for teaching grammar and functions with new learners the prime function for a teacher must begin with vocabulary for early learners. Beginner and elementary learners would almost totally be focussed on the learning of new words with very basic sentence structure but as you get to intermediate and above the focus would shift to the way the words interact in a sentence and correct grammatical usage.
