Pronunciation is a much more complex subject then I had originally thought. Muscle memory plays such a huge part of it and most people don't give it any thought. It makes complete sense that this would be one of the hardest parts for a student to master. As you can learn all the words and all the grammar. You can learn how to read and write. But muscle memory is not something you can learn it's something you have to develop. That can only be done by doing. Which is why it is important for a teacher to not just have students memorize the alphabet and not just memorize the sounds. But teach them the differences between the sounds. How it is supposed to move on your tongue, how putting certain letters together can create different vibrations. After mastery of individual letters is learned you move to words and how they fit in your mouth. What letters tend to be more emphasized. For example, a two-syllable word emphasizes the second part. After this, you move on to complete sentences. You explain the rise and fall of questions. Different ways to say words like yes and okay and what they mean. Then you move on to how the average English person would speak. Explain sound dropping, sound changing, linking, and extra lettering. Explain how ice cream and eye scream are two different set of words yet sound the exact same when spoken of. Pronunciation is more than just saying the words correctly but assimilating to its culture as well. This is about communicating with others in the most natural of settings. This is how you get your point across. This is not just about how you speak. This is about how you show emotion while speaking.
