Reading, listening, speaking and writing are skills that should go hand in hand. I cannot place my value on teaching one over the other or else we have a situation where students can talk to people in their everyday lives, but can not read any form of literature, nor write it. This in it's self is not a quality a language learner would want to have. They should be able to apply and express themselves in these four basic skills of language freely in order to excel in the English language.
