I have learnt that the way I approach the English learner at different levels should be according to their needs and level of language understanding and proficiency. Its advisable for me not to speak the learner's native language, even if I might know it, in the classroom setting otherwise I will make the learner lazy to learn English because I would eventually resort to speaking their language. This prompts the student to speak to me and fellow classmates in English and hence put into practice what they have been learning. The use of materials like dictionaries should therefore be readily available if they find it difficult to communicate something to me.
