The future tense is by far the hardest tense to comprehend. Unlike in Spanish, where the future tense is the most simple. The future tense, like the other tenses, has the future simple, future continuous, future perfect and the future perfect continuous. Unlike the others, however, it also has the be going + infinitive and uses versions of the present simple and continuous. The future simple is based on future facts or certainties, assumptions, spontaneous decisions, and promises. It is built by a subject + shall/will + verb. The future continuous is used to say that something will be in progress at a particular moment in the future. It is specific. It is also used to say what we think might be happening now, to ask others about future plans and to refer to a future event which is fixed. It is built by a subject + will + be + verb + ing. The future perfect is used to say that something will have been done or achieved by a certain time in the future. It is built by using a subject + will + have + a past participle. The going to future is used for intentions, predictions based on present evidence, (whereas the future simple makes predictions with no evidence) and for decisions made before speaking. It is built by using a subject + am/are + going to + a verb.
