This unit went over all the tools teachers have at their disposal for effectively teaching a class. It also went through the steps of using and maintaining such tools. Like most things preparation is key. One essential is a board. Typically and preferably a whiteboard. Then there are smart boards but one should be prepared for a backup plan in case the smartboard isn't working the way you had planned. Smartboards are also items one should make sure to become proficient at before incorporating it into your class. It can be a bit complicated to get the hang of for some but once you can know what to do it can be a great and engaging learning tool. Then there are overhead projectors which can be used to play videos and present powerpoints. This allows you to spend less time showing your back to the students and more time engaging. Then, of course, there are visual aids, worksheets, and cards which are all things one can choose to make themselves or find online. Cameras in the class are also helpful. Not only does filming a students presentation allow them to go back and analyze their errors, filming can be a fun and creative way to practice speaking. It's like making a performance for the class but there's less pressure about embarrassing yourself. Then there are things like dictionaries which everyone should have access to and most people do via there phone but should still be provided a paperback if they desire. Then there are coursebooks and resource books which can all vary depending on the school, region, language, and level of the class.
