In this unit I learned the fixed ruled for reporting direct speech, as well as the different forms of conditionals. While I was previously aware of the differences in these forms of speech, I had never thought about the specific rules that regulate them. I was particularly interested to note the varying levels of time and likelihood of occurrence that dictate which form of the conditional should be used.
