The first lesson is the foundation of the class atmosphere. Are you going to be labelled as boring? Rather sluggish? Playful? Or exciting? The first impression is very important as it will set the pace for the next lessons to come. Proper introduction and establishing rapport are the cornerstone of the student-teacher relationship. I should be willing to look out for how best to connect with each set of students, as they are all different. Depending on the individual students, quick assessment of each individual will allow me to cater for all their needs while still being relevant to each one of them. I have to encourage the reluctant student and help stimulate their interests and confidence.
