This course gave an overview of some of the obstacles a teacher may face in the classroom. I learned the difference between a new group and an existing group and how important it is for a teacher to establish rapport between the students and between the teacher and students in the first lesson. This rapport could be established with a fun game such as a pass the ball game or a needs analysis when teaching business English. I also learned that in order to get a class excited for a lesson you have to do a warm up exercise rather than jumping into the study phase of a lesson (i.e. Pictionary). Finally I learned that have a mixed group of students who are learning the same material at different levels can be dealt with in a number of ways including pairing stronger students with weaker ones.
