Teaching receptive skills is a task that many students never have to think about. However, having been a tutor for so many years, I have had to do this many times. Receptive skills are necessary to excel in any subject. Also, this unit made me realize that students will not be willing to learn or even less implement receptive skills if they are not motivated. Keeping students motivated is extremely important because this will make it easier to teach receptive skills. Before trying to teach receptive skills to a group of students, I would make sure that they are motivated.
