This unit helped summarize what qualities make a good educator AND a good student, as well as basic ways to assess students' levels of English comprehension, and the pitfalls and hurdles both educators and students might encounter in their respective roles. It gives information that helps a new teacher approach a teaching opportunity more strategically by considering factors like students' age, desire and motivation to learn, cultural differences, and anxieties these student may have about learning. By outlining the many roles a teacher may take, it helps a burgeoning educator comprehend a multifaceted way of approaching a classroom. As someone who is a teacher, albeit not an ESL one yet, it served as a great reflection of my own work, helped me feel proud about the things that I have done successfully, but also gave me ideas of how I can improve my own teaching style in the future.
