Observed Teaching Practice Certification Courses
For nearly two decades ITTT has been at the forefront of providing high-quality TEFL/TESOL courses that can be studied in-class or online. As part of our commitment to offering the best possible training to our students we are constantly endeavouring to provide courses that meet the demands of the TEFL/TESOL industry. This has led us to develop our online Observed Teaching Practice (OTP) course. Our OTP course is aimed mainly at qualified teachers who require a practical teaching component to their certification but who are, due to geographical or time constraints, unable to attend a training centre in person.
The unique benefit of ITTT’s OTP course is that all parts of the course can be completed remotely without any specialised technology, or the need to attend one of our training centres. Students study and complete a number of tasks before planning, teaching and recording a series of lessons. The course work is then submitted online for assessment by our course trainers. Throughout the course you will learn additional transferable skills such as video recording, video conferencing (Skype) and portfolio construction.
30-Hour Course & 50-Hour Course
The OTP course is available in 30-hour or 50-hour options. The 30-hour option has 6 hours of OTP and the 50-hour option has 12 hours of OTP. Both options provide full certification for the majority of English teaching jobs around the world when combined with an online TEFL/TESOL certificate. Anyone with an online TEFL/TESOL certificate from ITTT or elsewhere is eligible to take the OTP course as long as the certificate includes a minimum of 100 hours of study and a grammar component.
How OTP Courses Work
You will have six months to complete the course and once you have successfully finished all elements you will receive an OTP certificate. In addition to this certificate you will have created a portfolio of your work throughout the course. This portfolio will be useful in your future job applications as evidence of your teaching abilities.
The 3 Phases of an OTP Course
The course consists of three elements or phases. The first element of the course covers lesson planning, feedback techniques, self evaluation and the use of video as a training tool. The second element involves the teaching practice. Course participants will show their abilities in the classroom through teaching actual lessons to real English language students. The final element is a Skype interview about the topics covered in the course.
- 1) The first phase develops an awareness of and practice in the uses of lesson planning, feedback techniques, self evaluation and video as a training tool.
- 2) In the second phase participants demonstrate through the actual teaching of real ELLs (English Language Learners) their skills and abilities as teachers over a range of student levels and topics.
- 3) The final phase is where participants prepare for a series of interview-style questions on the topics covered throughout the course and a Skype interview is conducted.
The course prices represent excellent value for money at $695 for the 30-hour course and $990 for the 50-hour course.
