Unit 2 talks about some parts of speech in the English language including Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Gerunds, Prepositions and Conjunction. It explains various sub categories clarifying the function and purpose within a sentence. For example Noun Definition: Noun is the name of a person, place, thing or idea. e.g. Boy, Shanghai, Table, Happiness. Subcategories: Countable and Uncountable. e.g. Pen, Water Types: Common, Proper, Compound, Abstract, Collective e.g. Student, Mount Everest, Cupboard, Happiness, Pride. Rules: No capital letter with common nouns unless the sentence starts with that noun. Proper nouns are always start with a capital letter. Plural Nouns are usually created by adding an s. To make nouns that end with ch, sh, x, s plural, we usually add es. For nouns that ends in a consonant + y we usually change the y to an i and add es. A noun that ends in f gets a v instead of an f and an addition of es. All the other parts of speech mentioned are similarly covered in this unit with examples. Thus giving an opportunity for the teacher to learn/relearn.What this unit has done is reinforced the already existing knowledge and knowing the various usage parts of speech have, it is also clear that correct understanding of it will result in coaching the students accurately.
