Teaching English in Lithuania

Vilnius International School provides Lithuanian and expatriate children aged 3 though 16 a rigorous international education that aims to inspire the commitment to become learners for life. We have occasional opportunities for TEFL qualified teachers and welcome applications from teachers who live, or plan to live, in Vilnius. Our school was founded in 2004 by a group of parents and educators from Denmark, Finland, Lithuania and the United States, each of whom sought an educational experience for their children different from that available in Vilnius at the time.

LOCATION:
Our school is a beautiful place to work or study. VIS moved to a renovated 2,000 square meter building in the heart of Vilnius Old Town in 2009. Our beautiful school abounds with a sense of history and charm. The plentiful windows offer light year round, as well as inspirational views of the Old Town skyline.

Our school is located on a cobblestone street hidden at the base of Latako gtv. Facilities include a gym, assembly hall, computer lab, library and a spacious cafeteria and kitchen, comfortable open work areas and an enclosed courtyard for outside play.

Within 3 years of moving to the Old Town, we outgrew our premises and in September 2013 have expanded our facilities into an additional 850 square meter upper school facility. The new space lines the courtyard perimeter along Latako Street. The current upper school premises house a modern science laboratory, a design technology laboratory and an art studio and gallery. The most popular space with students is the Loft, a flexible community space.

VIS is planning to further expand the upper school. We anticipate opening our new building in 2020.

Vilnius International School is currently recruiting for the following full-time positions for the 2018-2019 school year:

Art teacher
English language teacher
History teacher (part-time)
Administrative assistant

We offer an attractive benefits package, which will be discussed at the interview stage.

Teaching English in Morocco

dir.alcrabat@gmail.com

The American Language Center of Rabat, a member of the American Cultural Association of Morocco, has been serving the community for over 50 years and has regular opportunities for TEFL qualified teachers. Located in Hassan, Rabat, we are the only American Language Center in the province of Rabat. A Moroccan-based, non-profit organization, ALC is funded solely by tuition and operates independently from any government affiliation or subsidy. ALC is the first choice for learners of English, serving over 16,000 language learners in Rabat-Salé each year. Our facilities in Hassan include 28 modern and comfortable classrooms, seminar and activity spaces, a bookstore and garden.

Teachers at the American Language Center are dedicated and collegial professionals, with their students as their first interest. All teachers at the ALC should possess at least a Bachelor's degree and should be certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL/TESOL), from a face-to-face certification course of at least 120 contact hours, including a practice teaching component and reflective feedback.

Native-speaking teachers from other countries should have a keen interest in living in Morocco, some knowledge of Moroccan culture, and should articulate their interest in living in Morocco in their cover letter (see below). Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate emotional intelligence, as well as an ability to thrive in an international setting and invest more than one year teaching at ALC.

Full-time teachers at ALC usually have 18-22 contact hours per week during our main terms, teaching students of all ages, including young learners. Work is mainly English teaching in the classroom, but may include facilitating activities, serving as a program coordinator, or assisting with other administrative projects. Most teaching takes place on weekday afternoons, evenings and on weekends. Teachers new to Morocco are asked to arrive in advance of the term with time to find housing and participate in orientation and training. All new teachers are required to attend the orientation program prior to their first term teaching. Temporary housing is provided upon arrival, and new teachers are also mentored throughout their first term.

Please note that by Moroccan law we are unable to employ teachers who are 60 years or above in age.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Full-time salaries offered by the ALC Rabat allow teachers to live comfortably in Rabat and are commensurate with experience. Salaries are in Moroccan dirhams, but foreign nationals are generally allowed to send up to 100% of their earnings to a foreign bank account in their name, upon receipt of their government work contract (actual terms are determined by each bank). In addition to the basic salary, all teachers are offered medical insurance for a modest fee, which covers 80% of most medical, dental and eye expenses, as well as medications. Other benefits include paid sick time (full-time teachers receive 30 hours of sick pay per year), vacation pay, and free ongoing instruction in Moroccan Dialect, Standard Arabic, or French. Foreign nationals are offered modest housing and travel allowances to help offset expenses. Support for professional development is provided in the form of mentoring for new teachers, free training, regular workshops, a free trip to the annual All-ALC TEFL Conference, and ability to apply for sponsorship to attend the IATEFL Annual Conference in the UK. Finally, free internet/e-mail access and a discount at the ALC Rabat bookstore are provided.

HOW TO APPLY
A job application to ALC Rabat should be submitted to Michael McMillan, director, at the email address given on the job heading, and should include the following (minimum):

1) a CV / resume in PDF format;
2) a scanned JPEG or PDF copy of the name/photo page of your passport;
3) a carefully composed letter in PDF format telling us about yourself, including why you would like to teach at the ALC and live in Morocco;
4) letters of reference in PDF format (university and/or job references, including your last job;
5) a scanned JPEG or PDF copy of your university diploma(s) and TESOL/TEFL certificate. (It is not necessary to include copies of Certificates of Attendance for workshops and seminars.)

These can be submitted by email to the above address, or if candidates are local, at the ALC reception desk in the main office. Skype interviews are arranged when an in-person interview is not possible. Applicants hired locally will be asked to teach a short demonstration lesson (30-45 minutes).

Recruitment normally takes place during the spring for the academic year that begins the following autumn. However, you are free to apply at any time, as there may be a need for qualified teachers at other times of the year. We regret that we are not able to respond to every inquiry, but will strive to do so for all qualified candidates.

Foreign candidates should arrive with a criminal history background report certified no more than 60 days before arrival date, as well as original teaching certificate(s) and university diploma(s). University transcripts are not necessary. Americans may obtain a 90-day tourist visa on arrival, but other nationals should inquire prior to arrival.

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Teaching English in Belize

info@projects-abroad.co.uk

Volunteering as a teacher in Belize with Projects Abroad is a great way to gain practical TEFL work experience while giving back. You do not need to have any previous teaching experience to participate. As a volunteer, you will have a positive impact on the lives of the children you teach, whether you are a gap year student, career breaker, or simply looking for a meaningful way to contribute during a vacation.

The educational system in Belize is based on the British system, and education is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 14. Although primary education is free, there are a large percentage of children who are not receiving an education because of the cost of related expenses, such as uniforms and books. Volunteers are needed to help support these children, improve literacy levels, and give them the skills and education they need to build a sustainable future.

The official language in Belize is English, so your main role as an English teacher will be to help children build on their reading, writing, and comprehension abilities. You will also be able to teach a variety of other subjects.

Projects Abroad volunteers work in elementary and junior/high schools in San Pedro. The children are aged from about 6 to 17 years old. Your exact role in the classroom will depend on your level of experience and confidence. You may be assisting the local teacher, working with small groups on conversational English, or you could be asked to take the whole lesson. Other tasks may include helping the children who are struggling with their homework, and running one-on-one sessions with the children who need help with their numeracy and literacy skills.

Local staff will be eager to have you be involved in teaching other subjects and organising extra-curricular activities. Depending on your skills and interests, you could teach subjects such as maths, science, art, drama, music, physical education, and more. Please let us know if you are interested in any particular areas.

As a volunteer on the Teaching project, the impact you have on the lives of the children you work with will reach beyond your time at the placement. You will also be part of a much wider volunteer network, which is making a hugely positive contribution to the communities in which we work.

Whatever talents or skills you have, teaching in Belize will give you the opportunity to put them to good use and make a difference. You can be creative with your teaching to make learning fun. Engaging the children through the use of games and songs will help to make them excited to learn.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH WORK:
For those who are interested, there are also other general project activities you can get involved in, which are open to all our volunteers based in San Pedro. These include:

• Walking the animals at the SAGA Humane Society and providing them with care and attention
• Supporting a Girls’ Club that tackles self-esteem issues, bullying, and other topics related to adolescent girls
• Supporting a Boy’s Group that tackles issues of respect, bullying, and other topics related to adolescent boys
• Re-usable bag and straw campaign to reduce the amount of plastic used on the island
• Mural painting in schools

We also arrange Community Days for our volunteers. These may involve:

• Cleaning and revamping parks
• Participating in beach and community clean-ups
• Taking part in community movie nights

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.

Teaching English in Sri Lanka

admin@svsenglish.org

Volunteering with us as an EFL teacher will be one of the most fulfilling things you do in your life. Whether you’re looking to make a life change after years spent in the rat race, or want to gain some life experience after university, whether you’re a nomad of the world looking for your next settlement or just someone who wants to make an honest difference in people’s lives, then come and join the SVS School for English family.

We know it’s a bold claim to make, but we’ve had the privilege of hosting dozens of volunteers from across the world in the decade since we started; every one of them has found a measure of happiness, teaching English to hundreds of students who truly value the experience and knowledge their teachers bring.

As a volunteer teacher with SVS School for English, you’ll have the chance to live and travel in the beautiful tropical island that is Sri Lanka. We’re not going to give you the guide book spiel – after all, you can Google it for yourself and see just how wonderful a place Sri Lanka is. What we will tell you is that it’s hard to leave once you get here.

Our volunteers receive food and accommodation free of charge, travel to and from the school as well as a small monthly stipend. Teachers live in a large, modern house in the suburbs of Colombo, close to the scenic parliament area, and a stone’s throw from a gorgeous wetland park. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided, as well as other amenities including a laundry service. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to experience the tranquility of Sri Lanka’s up-country region when visiting Maskeliya, where the school’s parent project, the Samanala Valley Foundation is located.

Classes run Monday to Friday, beginning at 8.30 AM. Volunteer teachers work 30 hours a week, teaching three 2-hour classes daily, and are provided with lesson plans and course materials. All teachers really need to bring to the classroom is enthusiasm and the zest and passion to be the best for their students.

REQUIREMENTS:
We’re looking for committed, open- minded individuals with a passion for helping students develop their written and spoken English language skills, along with the enthusiasm to take in all that Sri Lanka and SVS School for English has to offer. To volunteer with SVS School for English, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

You must be a native speaker of English and/or have an excellent standard of English.
Graduated from university and/or be TEFL certified and/or have at least 3 or more years of work experience in any industry.
Be able to commit to at least 6 months of volunteering at SVS School for English.
Volunteer teachers will need a visa to enter Sri Lanka, and the school assists in making the necessary arrangements to procure a visa.

It’s simple, really. We’re just a small, family-run school (that’s also a charity), who are trying to do our best for our students. We’re here to ensure that anyone living in Sri Lanka who wants to learn English has a fair and equal opportunity to do so. And in order to fulfill our mission, we need the help and support of like-minded individuals to join our team.

TO APPLY:
We need volunteers to join us throughout the year, and accept applications on a rolling basis. So if you’re ready for an adventure, then apply today! We hope to welcome you to our family soon! To apply, please contact us via email at the address given on the job heading and attach your C.V. Include a brief paragraph of no more than 250 words explaining why you’d like to be a part of our team in Sri Lanka. Once we receive your application, we will be in touch to discuss next steps.
