TEFL in Zhuhai | TEFL China | ITTT

The huge popularity of ESL in China means that Zhuhai has become a very popular city in which to gain TEFL International’s teaching certificate. The city is incredibly exciting and affords you a view into Chinese culture, its diversity and history. Taking your course here truly represents a unique opportunity to experience the real side of China.

Macao borders Zhuhai’s southern border and is roughly 70 miles away from Guangzhou and only 36 miles away from Hong Kong. The city is situated in an outstanding location with great scenery, a clean environment and a rather nice coastline. These are just some of the great reasons why our trainees give it such high praise.

TEFL Courses in China

Zhuhai is a seaside resort city where flowers blossom all year round. Its attractive environment and natural landscapes have helped Zhuhai come to be known as a garden city, with good urban planning and very hospitable locals.

In 1999, Zhuhai was the only city in all of China to be awarded the “Best Practices Living Environment” by the United Nations Center for Human Settlement. In addition to this it’s also won numerous other awards for good environmental policies as well as overall cleanliness.

Zhuhai has also been named the “City of 100 Islands” due to the 146 islands that lay off its coast. The islands are both large and small and offer visitors a virtual treasure-trove of activities. Dong’ao Island covers roughly 2.5 square miles; Hebao Island has eight, white or yellow sand beaches; Danan Bay in an amazing two miles long, while Feigha Beach offers plenty in terms of swimming and recreation. While these are just a few of the attractions, we encourage course participants to get out to islands and explore them for themselves.

Nearby TEFL International’s center are other attractions as well. You can visit a local tea factory and get to know the hometown of Sun Yat Sen, see the New Yuanming Palace, tour Macao, or ride the Shining Shan Cableway.

If you like seafood, you’ll love Zhuhai. It’s got a wealth of fresh stock coming in from the sea on a daily basis so restaurants serve up excellent dishes at very affordable prices.

  • What is the course schedule?

    Expand

Normally all the classes are scheduled from 8:50 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. during weekdays, however, we do observe the many Chinese national holidays, which means we sometimes have to work over the weekend to make up for these days off. Trainees will be scheduled for observed teaching practice on or off site depending on students’ circumstances. Chinese students are usually very well behaved in the classroom and are interested and excited about learning English with a foreigner. Class sizes range from 10 to 25. Trainees will teach lessons of 30 to 50 minutes according to the student’s timetable.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

    Expand

We offer English classes for Chinese students who are interested in improving their English language abilities. Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive immediate feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

  • Who usually attends the course?

    Expand

We average groups of six to ten trainees. Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian or Australian, although we do accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.

  • Is there a dress code?

    Expand

For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.

During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:

Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not hiking or flip-flop sandals.

Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are not acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

    Expand

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop but this is not essential.
